Projects

In the Spirit of the Gracious and Compassionate
Creator of the Heavens and the Earth

  • “Imperial Triangle: War and Prophecy in the Time of Muhammad”. Book-length historical work. Exciting enough for a screenplay.
  • Wilmington Memorial. I composed the opening processional 15 years ago, and have composed virtually nothing since.
  • African and African American Roots of European Classical Music. Working on this since 1973. Presentations on radio and at libraries and museums, from time to time.
    • The Chaconne. Originally from the African captives in what is now Cuba.
  • The Symphonic Structure of the Qur’an. Fairly recent project.
  • Hijri Calendar 1444 and Hijri Calendar 1445.
  • “Romeo”. Opera based on the statement in II Corinthians that Satan learned to present himself as an angel of light. The bel canto (beautiful singing) tenor hero turns out to be evil.
  • “Word-to-Word: A Comparative Study of the Bible and the Qur’an”. Huge. Noah alone (B-Noah versus Q-Noah) is worth an entire book. Started in 1995. Lost hundreds of pages of notes. A booklet — “Twelve Differences Between the Bible and the Qur’an” — is all that’s left.
  • Heterosexualism, Homosexuality, and Islam.
  • Riffs: Modular Structures in Music
  • Composing. Several projects outlined. Composing, of course, is my life. Starting at nine years of age, composition seminar at Harvard at 16 (1962), Ph.D. (1973)
  • Pianist. Won two International Awards from the Piano Guild of the American College of Musicians before my 17th birthday. Started practicing at five. Now I am terribly out of shape. Need to practice regularly.
  • James’s Book (young man who is like a son to me, has been pestering me to write a book about his life, which has been difficult and victorious, the life of a survivor)
  • Autobiographical. Memoirs, etc. https//mynameislester.com.
